Friday, June 08, 2012 - An earthquake of magnitude 6.0 rattled the southern fringes of Peru today. According to the US Geological Survey, the temblor recoded a depth of 99.7 kilometers. Homes were evacuated and schools were shut down following frequent tremors. Telephone lines were cut temporarily as panic-stricken residents rushed out of their homes.
It is still unclear how much impact the quake had on the nation. There has been no immediate reports of casualties or injuries. Tourists are advised to check with the local authorities before paying a visit to the country.
